With second week numbers still pouring in, Avatar: The Way of Water continues to impress at the box office.
According to Deadline, with 293 million grossed in U.S., and 955 million globally, Avatar: The Way of Water is about to pass 1 billion—within 13 days of its release. Domestically, the film is already the third highest grossing movie of 2022 and the fourth highest grosser of the pandemic era. Internationally, it is now the second highest grossing film of 2022, and the third highest grossing movie of the pandemic era. The highly anticipated sequel continued its strong performance despite the surge of COVID-19 infections in China and the winter storm that blasted much of the U.S. Will it beat the gross of Top Gun: Maverick? Will its performance justify already-filmed sequels? That remains to be seen.
