Every Movie and TV Show Announced at Disney’s D23 EXPO 2024

Disney started off this year’s Ultimate Disney Fan Event with a bang, revealing news and details to satiate diehards and causal fans alike. Here is every movie and TV show announcement from the first night of D23 EXPO 2024.

Film

Moana 2 — the brand new trailer for the sequel to the most watched film across all streamers debuted to much fanfare. Auli’i Cravalho (voice of Moana) sang a new song, “We’re Back.” The film drops November 27.

Avatar: Fire And Ash — is the official title of the third Avatar film, again starring Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana. Director James Cameron promised more of Pandora than we’ve seen before—likely above the (way of) water this go round—new cultures and settings, and that the film “isn’t what you expect, but it’s definitely what you want.” Disney also revealed impressive concept art. The film hits cinemas on December 19, 2025.

Frozen 3 — Disney revealed new concept art for the film, officially hitting screens in 2027 (likely November 24, 2027). Jennifer Lee noted it will take two films to answer the questions left from Frozen 2 (but didn’t confirm a Frozen 4.). Josh Gad (voice of Olaf) on instagram ominously said that something wicked this way comes. Color me intrigued.

Zootopia 2 — Key Huy Quan joined the cast as Gary the Snake. The film—which has inspired an entire land at Shanghai Disneyland—hits theaters November 26, 2025.

Toy Story 5 — is official and it’s dropping Summer 2026; no further details on how they are going reunite the gang in light of the Toy Story 4 ending.

Incredibles 3 — in perhaps the most exciting news (at least, to me), Disney is developing an Incredibles 3 film. Brad Bird to return as director. No other information—watch this space.

Lilo and Stich — The live action film opens Summer 2025.

Hoppers — in what appears to be an interesting Pixar original, a clip shows a a human and beaver switching brains. In theaters Spring 2026.

Elio — Zoe Saldana (future Disney Legend?) is joining the cast of the film (already featuring America Ferrera) about a boy who is beamed up to an interplanetary organization where he has been chosen to be Earth’s ambassador. Elio hit theaters Summer 2025.

The Mandalorian & Grogu — scenes from the first theatrical release to be based on a Disney+ show were shown, including a planet that looks like Hoth and AT-ATs, too. The film hits theaters May 2026.

Freakier Friday – We have an official title to the sequel to the beloved Freaky Friday starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. Some behind the scenes photos were shown, but not much is known about the story (yet). Many actors from the 2000s film will return.

Snow White – a new teaser trailer was revealed showing Rachel Zegler singing “Whistle While You Work” along with the dwarves. In theaters March 21, 2015.

Tron: Aresfollow-up to 2010’s Tron: Legacy; guests got a first look at the film, which opens October 10, 2025. Nine Inch Nails will be scoring the soundtrack, which is very exciting.

Mufasa: The Lion King – a new trailer for the Barry Jenkins-directed film showed the early relationship between a young Mufasa and Scar. A scene featuring a new song “I Always Wanted A Brother” written by Lin-Manuel Miranda was shown to D23 guests. In theaters December 20, 2024.

TV and Streaming

Dream Productions — A Disney+ animated series set between the events of Inside Out and Inside Out 2 will be about the production studio where Riley’s dreams are made every night on time and on budget. Footage showed Joy touring the studio and showing viewers how dreams are made.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew — this brand new show, set in the Star Wars universe during the same timeline as The Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fet, follows ids who get lost in the universe. It debuts on December 3.

Andor — new footage from season 2 was shown. Ben Mendelson will reprising his role as Orson Krennic from Rogue One. Not date for the new season was announced.

Ironheart — footage from the six-episode Black Panther follow-up that follows Riri Williams was shown, but no confirmation on when the show hits Disney Plus.

Daredevil: Born Again — a new trailer of the rebooted-for-Disney Plus show premiered. The new season hits the streamer on March 1, 2025.

Agatha All Along — Kathryn Hahn led a performance before a new trailer of the highly-anticipated show debuted. The first two episodes of the show premiere September 18.

The Greatest Showman — the hit film is being adapted into a stage musical.

Hercules – a brand new musical is hitting London’s West End in 2025.
