I’ve been wanting to blog more. I have so many drafts, whether they be more like this blog (personal in nature), or Disney-focused (a guide, how-to, or a review). The truth is, it’s been hard to be consistent due to work and family commitments.
I tend to put a lot of pressure on myself to do so many things, and I’m wary of spreading myself too thin. Obviously, my family and my job come first: but a part of me still yearns to write ~ to create, if you will ~ whether it be on this blog or on my several novels in progress (leave it to me to be working on several novels at once—more on that in another post).
The funny thing is, these desires to write and put my voice out there (finally) have persisted for years. Yet, it took me having kids and reaching a point where I have the least amount of time in a day (seriously, every day feels like a sprint and a marathon until it’s 11:00 and I’m finally able to “do something for myself,” whatever that means anymore), to get into my creative bag, so to speak.
The good news is, there’s some sort of creative spark urging me to document my ideas and focusing on making my ideas come to fruition. The not-as-good news is it can be tough to squeeze that in to an already-stuffed day, much less manage writing fiction with blogging and socials and whatnot.
Which leads me back to my initial point, that I haven’t blogged as much because it can feel overwhelming to come up with the content, write it, go through my thousands of photos, and then SEO-the-heck out of the article before publishing across socials. So, I find myself doing it less!
But I want to do it more, so I’m working on more casual updates (like this one), to do what I’ve always wanted to do, and that is, simply blog about what I’m up to, and my thoughts on fatherhood, Disney, even pop music (a topic I’ve yearned to write about—seriously, there’s a defunct website out there that contains my early dalliance with the blogosphere). I’m thinking of sharing more about my family life and periods of estrangement. I would like to share short stories (maybe on Patreon?). I want to talk about some ideas for novels and hear reader feedback. I would like to start a series where I review an artist’s entire discography, track-by-track (any guesses about the artist?). I want to keep writing reviews about Disney World. Let’s see how this goes.
Stay tuned.
Justin
