Two brand new lounges are coming this year to Disney World at the Magic kingdom and EPCOT.  But, who’s allowed in? You may be surprised to know that only select groups can actually enjoy the lounges. Here’s how to get into McKim’s Mile House and Geo-82 lounges at Walt Disney World.

McKim’s Mile House

The first is McKim’s Mile House, a new lounge in Frontierland that replaced the Frontierland Arcade at the Magic Kingdom. Disney surprised everyone when it opened early on March 18. Mckim’s Mile House is full of rustic charm and adventurous decor, nodding to imagineers and other theme park lore with its decor, in a comfortable setting. You can find places to relax, complimentary drinks WiFi and charging cords. It will be open between 11:00 AM and 6 PM.

As amazing as that looks, it’s only open for certain Disney Vacation Club, or DVC members. DVC members must also have access to what’s called Membership Extras, which are incidental benefits that come when you buy a certain amount of points directly from Disney. These guests will need to present a Disney Vacation Club Membership Card and a photo ID that matches the card. As a reminder, this lounge is inside the Magic Kingdom, meaning you also need theme park admission to get in.

So if you’re not a DVC member, how can you access the lounge? Make a DVC member friend: they are allowed up to four guests at entry.

Geo-82 at EPCOT

Moving on, the second new lounge is at EPCOT, called Geo-82. An all out homage to Spaceship Earth, this one is located within the geodesic sphere at EPCOT that’s home to the beloved Spaceship Earth attraction.

The name GEO-82 is an obvious, if on the nose, nod to Spaceship Earth, which opened in 1982. According to Disney, at GEO-82, you’ll be immersed in the storied history and enduring legacy of this timeless EPCOT icon.

The lounge will offer innovative cocktails and globally influenced small plates for you to enjoy as take in unparalleled park views, including of World Celebration Gardens. The decor is heavily inspired by spaceship earth, and will include warm, metallic tones that echo Spaceship Earth in an elegant and intimate setting.

So how do you get in? First, Geo-82 has yet to open, so watch this space for a confirmed opening date. Second, the good news is it will not be limited to DVC members—meaning any park guest with a ticket (or if you’re an annual pass holder, a park reservation) can get in, but there is one catch: it’s adults only and you must be 21 or over to enter. And a reservation is required, which won’t be easy to snag. The Disney world website already says that space is extremely limited, so buckle up for the reservation process for this one.

My Thoughts

Disney is leaning heavily into lounges as of late—other DVC lounges already exist around Disney World, each Disney Cruise Line ship has lounges, and ANOTHER lounge themed to Pirates of the Caribbean is planned to open at the Magic Kingdom later this year. While the idea of a lounge is fun, snd don’t get me wrong, I can’t wait to explore, I’m a little concerned with capacity and accessibility. I’m not a DVC member so those lounges are off limits to me. Geo-82 is probably going to be small and I wonder how competitive the reservation process will be or if Disney will limit how long you can spend there. Even though I’m the Disney World Dad, I don’t mind that it’s adults only—that makes it unique. I’m just a little wary of Disney carving out more spaces within its parks that aren’t available for the average theme park guests. That said, maybe Disney is catering to its most diehard fans who are looking for something extra special during their visit, out of the heat and tucked away  from crowds.

Alrighty, tell me your thoughts about the lounges: are you excited to visit? Let me know.
