The Pirates of the Caribbean tavern coming to Adventureland at the Magic Kingdom officially opens August 29 — that’s right, this month — and I am here to talk about everything we know about the storyline, the theming, the food, and also, when you can make a reservation. And if you are attending either Mickey’s So Scary Halloween Party Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, I will tell you when you can make a reservation to try this swashbuckling new space during the parties. Let’s get into it!

Alright, some background, The Beak and Barrel was initially announced at Destination D23 in 2023. It will consist of a bar that is family friendly — meaning kids are allowed in, unlike the recently opened Geo-82 at EPCOT — that will be located in Adventureland at the Magic Kingdom, right near the entrance to the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction.

The story goes that the pub was opened by a legendary pirate rum runner named Captain Meridian “Merry” Goldwyn, and her talkative first mate, a green parrot named Rummy.
Rummy, who I am sure will soon enough will become a Disney icon, is the tavern’s quartermaster, charged with keeping an eye on the place from his roost high atop the bar. Though he no longer sails the Seven Seas, he is known for being loyal to Merry, watching the bar, sharing tales from his pirate days, and leading the bar in a rousing toast or two.

For the Disnerds, Rummy intentionally looks similar to the original Barker Bird, who sat above the previous entrance sign to the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction.

The Beak and Barrel will have two spaces: the first is the largest, called the Mess, a place where Spanish soldiers once dined. The Mess has long tables for shared seating, a massive anchor covered in candles above, and a bar comprised of salvaged ship wreck pieces. A large skull shaped stern forms its center, filled with grogs and brew. Lookout for the Enchanted Rum Bottle, gifted to the tavern from Tia Dalma, and Rummy himself hobbling along the bar’s edge as he keeps guests in ship shape.

The second room is the Captains’ Quarters, the former living space for Spanish soldiers. This looks more lounge slash table service vibes so this might be better for those of us with kids. Watch for tattered artwork damaged by pirates, and five miniature ships in glass bottles above a fireplace, each representing pirates across the world; they will come alive and have a fearsome battle, which sounds like fun.

Moving on the the food, Disney is taking care to welcome guests of all ages with some fun, non-alcoholic themed potions, like The Treasure trove, featuring a mix of ube, lemon, and coconut, plus treats like a vanilla cake plank, a chocolate cannonball, and golden caramel popcorn. Another non-alcoholic option is The Cursed Treasure, featuring coconut milk and cookie crumbs stopped with vanilla foam and a pirate’s gold cookie.

For the adults, The Salty Seas MARRgarita will feature South Asian flavors and have a distinct purple color, while The Sirens’ Whisper, inspired by the Fountain of Youth in the Pirates of the Caribbean films, will be topped with a Siren’s tear. Other speciality drinks include Barrels Ablaze, a bourbon, Port of Call, a gin, the Lit Fuse, Hibiscus Rum Punch Royale, and Plunderer’s Punch, which will have Kraken Black Spiced Rum and comes in a cool souvenir pirate skull mug—note that this option will be limited to one per guest.

There will also be several wine and beer options, including several exclusive draft beers, so be on the lookout for that.

Some food options include Kraken’s Catch, a cold salad complete with an instagram ready octopus tentacle, Cook’s Corn Griddle Cakes, a warm corn cake with cheese and peppers, and Island Provisions, a shareable plate with plantain chips, blue corn tortillas, and flatbread with dips.

And finally, there will be Beak and Barrel merch like this cool shirt and parrot shoulder plush. Find them at the merch shop, Plaza del Sol Caribe Bazzar, next door.

So when can you make a reservation?
August 14, which is very soon, so be ready the morning of as this one is going to be popular. Though Mickey’s Not-so-Scary Halloween Party dates begin just before The Beak and Barrel opens, the bar will be open on Halloween party dates after August 29–this could be a great option to try it with less crowds, so check for reservations before your party date or see if there are walk up options. Remember you can get in as early as 4PM on party dates, so maybe try getting a reservation before the party starts so you can take it in without missing the Halloween options.
And if you want to visit on a Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Night, you can start making reservations on September 3. Reminder that if you are a Disney Resort guest, you can do so 60 days in advance of your stay plus the length of your stay.
Finally, some are speculating that this place could have a 45 minute time limit per party, similar to Oga’s Cantina at Hollywood Studios. Stay tuned for more info about that.
Arrrh right—see what I did there? I am officially excited for this one. I feel like Adventureland is in need of something new and this seems to be just the boost it needs. I like that it’s a bit kitschy, leaning into the Pirates films as well as the beloved attraction, and in keeping with the Magic Kingdom vibes, it is open to families. It would be nice to visit and let the kids feel like they are really in a pirates tavern as we grab a quick bite before heading back into the park.
