The fan favorite attraction at the Magic Kingdom is getting major updates starting this August when it will close until an unspecified date in 2026. Here are the changes:

A Brand New Scene

A new character, a friendly robot named “Buddy”  created by Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar Animation Studios will play a key role on the Star Command team.

Per Disney, “As a support-bot, Buddy makes sure departing Space Rangers are fully prepared for their mission, enthusiastically providing encouragement, final system checks on their Star Cruisers and a chance to hone their blaster aim.”

New Ride Vehicles, Handheld Blasters, and Interactive Targets

Ride vehicles are getting a new Buzz-inspired color scheme and will feature video monitors for real time scoring updates. New handheld blasters will allow for better aim, and enhance the experience for younger rides—can’t complain with family friendly updates. The blasters will now have always on lasers with two colors per state cruiser; in other words, Disney is making it easier to aim when on the mission. Finally, targets will no longer be static’s can will react and light up when hit.

These are welcome, modern updates to this attraction. Make sure you get a ride in before it closes in August!
